• System 80 Pink Panther sound problem

I am getting no sound during game play. I don't have a manual yet (ordering one tomorrow) but I don't think it will do me much good in this case. I have switch 25 on the cpu in the on position. The attract mode sounds nice and clear and plays every 5 minutes. All the 7400, 7404's and the 7432 above the switches have been replaced sometime before I got the game. Any other ideas out there?

The sounds are enabled by the Lamp/Solenoid driver board. The schematics
will show the driver IC - a 7404 as I recall - so check it. The sound
    control lines are S1, S2, S4, and S8...

Well, I thought one of the replaced 7404's would be dead and the first one I pulled was dead. All I have around is 74LS04's and they must not work right for that spot. I pulled a couple other ic's near the dead one and they all passed. Looking around I found a salvage one that tested good, but like an idiot I put it in upside down and caused a crapload of problems. I gave up on that CPU alltogether. Put in one I fixed years ago and problem solved! All I need to do John is buy that NOS backglass you have stached in back and I'll have a nice game I won't want to sell. I do actually like this game. Steve at Pinball Resources told me most of them got exported to France. He told me I was very lucky to find this as a barn find for $300 bucks. He asked me if I was wearing a mask when I bought it, lol.

You probably can get away with using 74LS04 for the sound drivers - as
LS series can drive one or two conventional TTL gates and there is only
one gate for each sound to be driven on the sound board...

As for the Panthera b/g, I wish I had a NOS one, as I'd use it in my
Panthera game that came in recently with a 6 - 7 level backglass.

Hi John, All I remember is something was goofy. I would have to fix that CPU and try that all over again and that would be a chore for little or no gain. And then who knows I might put another ic in upside down... although I think I'm cured of that for a while, being the CPU I used I would have wanted around $150 for, and the ic that may have fixed it was less than a $1.50 I think. Pink Panther actually is a pretty cool game. I haven't had a Panthera or Eclipse, for some reason never wanted James Bond or Spiderman. Had all the rest of the system 80's though. Thanks much for your help again. Stay tuned, I'm sure I'll wreck something. Tim H. Shoreview, MN
