My clock gearbox is awfully noisy. Is there any lubricant that can be
used to coat the gears safely to help quiet it down? Works well otherwise.

I've often wondered if "Tenacious Oil" might work for quieting the clock...

The gears can be lightly lubricated with a Teflon-based lubricant, something like DuPont's "Non-Stick Dry-Film Lubricant" with Teflon; avoid "wet" lubricants (like oils). Radio Shack used to sell a tube of Teflon-based lubricant gel that worked great.

I think DuPont is completely out of the retail business? Heck, DuPont
barely exists anymore. [Former DuPont employee here.]

Since Teflon is a trademarked name, anything called Teflon would have
the DuPont (Chemours now, a spin off of DuPont) lubricant in it.

I use this: Finish Line Lubricant Teflon Squeeze

    https://www.amazon.com/Finish-Line-Lubricant-Teflon-Squeeze/dp/B00Z779GMO

Stay away from any of the 'cleaning' bicycle Teflon lubricants. They generally have a wax in them to clean the dirt off of bicycle chains.

Might want to clean off the gears completely with 91% isopropyl alcohol
first to remove any gunk or wet lubricant a previous owner misapplied.

    https://www.teflon.com/en

The generic name of Teflon is polytetrafluoroethylene.

DuPont Teflon Non-Stick Dry-Film Lubricant Squeeze Bottle, 4 Oz. Even
though it says for metal on metal applications.

LOL, good to know you can not use it to repair cooking equipment!

    That should work.

Amazing it still says DuPont on it even though DuPont no longer makes
the product. Maybe it is old? Or Chemours licensed the DuPont name for retail products?

Your link is $8 for 4 oz. The bicycle chain Teflon lube is 8 oz for
$13. How much are you going to use over time?

I use it a lot. Garage door wheels, door hinges, EM parts, shooters,
and, occasionally, bicycle chains. Given my age, I suspect the 8 oz is a lifetime supply.
