    Hi,
i am starting to setup the UseNet area of mystic.
the FSX-USE.txt said that first i need to contact you
and ask for my node number (21:4/129) to be set up at the
    fsxNet Usenet Gateway (21:1/10).
is there any info you need from me for this?

    Thanks
    - Gamecube Buddy

not sure what to put in the scripts for communicating with the usenet server. also is there anthing specific i need to do for mis?
    such as ./mis poll 21:1/10 ?

If you have an event setup to do "./mis poll forced" every so often then that will poll all of your nodes, including 21:1/10

And don't forget to restart your server after any changes. That was a
    thing I had to learn...

As this is not really a mystic specific chat I will reply to you via netmail and take this out of the echo :) Stand by caller.

It would actually be great if there were a way we could connect to news servers directly via NNTP to transfer newsgroups.

I just added Usenet using SBBS' native ability to do so. I'm not sure its a value add.

There is such much garbage in Usenet now, most of the forums are filled with wierd racist rants and religious screeds. There are tons of spammers and bots that send the same 5000 line message full of links with different subject lines and user names so you can't filter it. I've been trying to narrow it down to the small amount of newsgroups used by humans to have intelligent conversation, and there are very few.

It's sad that such a once-valuable resource has been subverted with such slime. Like one of those fantasy novels where the wizards all went insane because Magic became corrupted by a great evil.

Even with a filter that limits cross postings to no more than 3 newsgroups?

My filter is currently 5, and I'm debating lowering it to 3 or 4. However the spam I described (5000 line posts full of random text and links posted under diferent names and subjects) appears both cross-posted and in single conferences.

I haven't tweaked any of my filters or unsubbed from anything yet. I'm waiting to get a few days of input before I start to narrow things down.
