From poindexter FORTRAN@21:4/122 to All on Saturday, October 22, 2022 09:07:00
I spent the week traipsing around British Columbia on business. Flew in to Vancouver, spent the night near the airport. Took a car ferry to Vancouver Island, and drove to my company's office in Port Hardy. They have a wind
farm in Cape Scott, 55 wind generators generating almost a gigawatt of
power. We were there to install a Nutanix VM cluster and replace the networking - and fix whatever niggling problems popped up along the way.

Getting up at 4, into the office by 5, an hour drive in an AWD vehicle up a dirt road to the farm, off the hill by 7, find out all of the restaurants close by 8, eat at a pub - and repeat.

The last night we decided to split the drive up and stopped at Painter's
Lodge in Campbell River. It's a wonderful fishing lodge with a riverside bar and restaurant. We ended up resolving a networking issue at a table at the bar, laptops out and beers drunk. Ended up drinking shots made of spiced rum and butterscotch ripple that tastes like a shot of torani syrup. Staggered
to my room, woke up at 3, out by 4 to catch the 5:45 ferry to the
    mainland... no travel surprises.

Back in front of my computer, downloaded a 1.2 mb QWK packet and sorting through the messages before I look at work email.

This sounds nice, it beats sitting in the office all day I guess :)

When I see gigawatt I immediately think 'great scott!' :) Did you see Michael J Fox and Christoper Lloyd on stage the other day? YouTube has the clips.

Hmm the end sounds good but not sure about the bits before that :)

Dinner last night was a cheese and mince pie with some mixed veg... I like the sound of your exotic lifestyle much better hahahah

Well good to know you're doing the BBS thing before the work thing ;-) Keep up the good work. :)

    I like my office. :)

Now that I'm back, I need to rush to get the office ready to turn over to
new sublessees on 10/31. We haven't occupied it since we built it out in December of 2020, and the group it housed is being absorbed into other
    teams.

Because of attrition there's no one to deal with facilities issues, and I
need to clear out the office of files, personal effects, e-waste, kitchen
crap and so on, and ship 5 servers back to the home office.

I have one week to saturate their 600/600 unlimited bandwidth, what to download?

this sounds a lot more like being 'general dogsbody, cook and bottle washer' all in one :)

    The mind boggles :)
