    Hi All,

I'll be leaving tomorrow for a camping trip up in Algonquin Provincial Park until Sunday. Got everything packed up already so we can get an early start, just need to throw the kayaks on the car & hit the road.

I'll probably invoke the sysop's curse of "separation anxiety" by announcing it here, if that's the case I'll have to get things back online on Sunday
    when I'm back.

Hehe. Don't panic, the BBS going offline for a few days won't cause
financial meltdown, chaos in the streets etc.

I'm the same though, everytime I leave the home I wonder if that will be
the time we have a power outage or something, but then the bigger problem
would be the freezer defrosting, not the BBS / website going down..

    ehm..

    Have fun!

So it turns out my ISP is down across much of the country. Turns out my board's separation anxiety decided to take out all Rogers customers in
    Canada! You're welcome! :)

Yes.. a BIG surprise to many who only carry debit cards too!

Visa and Mastercard payments worked ok though.

Many people were desparately trying to pull cash out of their
bank accounts to get through the weekend.

    have not worked," he said."

..so they had redundancy? Hard to believe, especially since the

My guess is that they will blame it on an unauthorized software

Never knew you lived in my apartment complex where brownouts happen in the middle of the night or very early in the morning. Got so sick of it that I finally bought an UPS. ;)

On a serious note...used to this happening during the evening when I lived in Arizona in July...but never during off-peak times. It was so bad that I or the cat farted...the transformer on the pole would blow. The coop never replaced their equipment...with it meaning increasing rates.

I'm one of them, I seldom carry cash anymore, though I did happen to have
some for my camping trip to buy some firewood. I had to fill my gas tank up in the park, I drove 37km to the nearest gas station (Shell in Dwight) and thankfully they were still able to take credit cards, but debit was down.

/me remembers a major Australian retailer that lost all EFTPOS on December 23rd many years ago. Their entire EFTPOS network (they operated their own) was routed through a single X.25 switch in Sydney, and that switch went sideways. Wasn't long before they had a 2nd switch in Melbourne...

I grew up before ATMs and debit cards, I feel naked going out without some cash on me.

For a moment, it seemed that Interac (debit, and eTransfer)
were exclusive to Rogers. But according to the the recent link
you provided on the matter, RBC (RoyalBankCanada) debit was OK
    in British Columbia.

I think it is astonishing that Interac didn't have a fallback
option over another carrier - or couldn't arrange to have one
    in a few hours.

I'm surprised that Rogers rolled out the update trusting
Ericsson. Perhaps Rogers should have "tested" the update on a

Well I have two of those as well but they normally hang out with the wife in trailer. My workspace in the back on the truck, where I normally have my latop and 2nd monitor setup. When we were not full-timing it and we had a house, the little dog use to watch and supervise me from a chair in the office until the wife would wake up.
