Just curious if anyone on here rebuilds, restores, fixes old Jukeboxes as a hobby. This is a fantastic hobby that I enjoy, and want to see how many others do the same.

I don't work on Juke Boxes but I do repair / recondition typewriters and calcuators as a part-time hobby business.

Awesome, I bet you run into some of the same challenges as I do getting parts for the old ones.

Got a weblink? My hobby is drooling over Tom Hanks typewriter collection, and vowing to never go down that rabbit hole, but always looking.

That reminds me I should look for the typewriter I used during high school
and college at my parent's house. I recall it having a plastic cover over
what appeared to be an interface port to convert the daisy wheel typewriter into a printer. If I had the model number, I'm sure there's some documentation
    out there on it.

Hope this message finds you well. I saw that you posted this a while back.

I do not work on jukeboxes, although I could certainly see that being quite
fun to do. I have a friend in NJ that has restored a couple of Jukeboxes,
from what I remember (haven't talked to him in a while).

I myself am a piano tuner/technician by day and though I don't currently do full restoration, I do a lot of repairs/regulation and tuning to get them back in good shape. I do some electronic repair too. It's always a great feeling to get something working again, which didn't seem like it ever would...

    All the best,
    Jerry

That's the great part to me. Taking something that is 60, 70 0r more years old, and making it work again. I've got one in my shop now that's 60 years old, that I stripped down to bare wood, now I'm building it back up one piece at a time, by cleaning, buffing, or rebuilding. It's a time consuming process, but when you plug it in, and start it up, and it works, you are the happiest man on earth. They just don't make things anymore that will last that long. It's a very satisfying hobby.

I agree! Do you work on any other machines/devices? How many have you restored? Do you sell them, or keep them in your home?

Not any more. I was a diesel/auto mechanic before I retired. I did several chassis off/ ground up restorations on a few 1955 Desotos. Now, since I live in a condo, I keep it to just jukeboxes. I've restored five units so far, with this last project prob being my last. To date I've restored:

    1 - Seeburg VL200
    2 - Seeburg 222
    3 - Wurlitzer 2300
    4 - Seeburg LPC1
    5 - Seeburg AY160

I usually sell them after restoring them to finance the next build. I kept the LPC1. and I'm keeping the AY160, as it's one of the last Seeburgs that show the record mech playing the records.

It's a great hobby, but very difficult to do in a condo. The neighbors don't care for the paint smells, sanding, hammering, and noise. I had a shop at my old house for the other rebuilds. It's just to complicated to do at the condo.

Very cool. I have always been facinated with the bubble lights on those old jukeboxes. Not sure if it was just a Wurlizter thing, or not....Just always liked them. Being able to see the record playing also adds to the
experience. I always had a record player growing up...having a physical
device playing will always be tops in my mind.

    All the best!

Just curious if anyone on here rebuilds, restores, fixes old Jukeboxes as a hobby. This is a fantastic hobby that I enjoy, and want to see how many

I've got a buddy in WA that found a fancy old jukebox in the garage of the house they just moved into. He's planning to restore it. Are there any resources you'd recommend that I could pass on to him?

There are lots of places you can buy part from. Used parts, check out ebay, new parts, try Victory Glass. Amp repair, Jukebox Doc in ohio. Like anything else in this world, be careful, and watch out for bad sellers. Alos, if you are on facebook, there are lots of jukebox forums you can join where other jukebox people will give you guideance and help
