• Olympic's and Video Games?

So should the Olympics include Video game medals? I can't believe this is even being considered but hey..We had the trick biking and scateboarding. This year surfing was included.

    I don't think so.

However, e-sports are becoming big moneymakers. I can see them taking more prominence in the future. The commentators of Warcraft tournaments seem to be better than soccer ones around here, that is for sure.

Something that irks me the wrong way is that making something like Starcraft an Olympic sport would give a lot of power to a videogame publisher. If Starcraft was in the Olympics it would mean Blizzard would have sole ownership of the platform used to decided who gets the medals, which IMO feels contrary to the Olympic stpirit. Or what is left of it.

I'd rather have crossbow shooting back than e-sports, really.

Abso-freakin-lutely NOT. What a joke. It's a nod to the softness of
today's youth. Video games are not sports.

IMHO trick biking and skateboarding are not, either. Surfing is
borderline but I'd say no to that also.

I'm sure the hosting country would like that. Very cheap to build the venue, ha.

I can't say I would watch it, though.

Well it seems the younger generation wants it. I never thought I'd see skateboarding as an Olympic event but I watched it myself. Some 13 year old kid from Japan won gold. Most of them fell and fell pretty hard. They do that thing where they skate down the railing down steps. I guess it's all about sponsorship and who's paying the bills. Do you think blizzard would be game to pay that kind of money?

I don't know. Blizzard already has its e-sports events set up and they generate a lot of audience and money within their niche. Whether they'd like to appear in the Olympics or not would depend on how much money they can afford to spend on being there :-)

The Olympic athletes are primarily funded by Donors. If Blizzard wanted to send their top gamers they would have to pay their TAB. However I'm not clear on which country or coutries they'd be competing for? Of course Japan wants it. That's where all the games are made. Well, the good ones anyway. Then you have virtual reality which is a whole other beast. I can see all the sports competing. You have soccer, judo, tennis, bandmiton and ping pong. All can be played electronically.

... Please don't ask me what the score is. I'm not even sure what the game is.
